On March 10, 2004 Cadet Thomas Flores Douglas was participating in required physical training exercises at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy located at 2310 Atascocita Road in Humble, Texas. During the training exercises, at approximately 1855 hrs, Cadet Douglas suddenly collapsed to the ground. Academy instructors immediately summoned medical assistance and performed life saving C.P.R. measures to aid Cadet Douglas. Cadet Douglas was transported to Houston Northeast Medical Center and arrived at 1935 hrs. The emergency room medical staff continued to provide him with urgent medical care for as long as they could. At approximately 2002 hrs, Cadet Thomas Flores Douglas failed to respond to medical assistance and was pronounced deceased. Thomas Flores Douglas began his service to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office on January 26, 2004 as a Harris County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputy Sheriff. He received his temporary Texas State Jailers License and was assigned to work in the Detention Bureau as a Detention Officer. On March 2, 2004 he was selected to receive his certification training as a cadet in the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Academy, Class BR1-2004. Cadet Douglas was on duty at the time of this tragic event performing his official duties at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Training Academy. Detention Officer Thomas Flores Douglas was the 37th to die in the line of duty.
