On Friday night, August 28, 2015, at approximately 8:20 P. M., Harris County Sheriff’s Office Senior Deputy Sheriff, Darren H. Goforth was shot and killed by ambush while in the line of duty as he was pumping gas into his patrol car at a commercial gas station at the intersection of West and Telge Roads in Cypress, Texas. Deputy Goforth was on patrol and had just completed an assignment at the scene of a vehicle collision. He went to a local gas station to refuel his patrol car. As Deputy Goforth stood next to his patrol, a male suspect walked up behind him and fired multiple shots at point blank range. After Deputy Goforth fell to the ground, the suspect shot him several more times before fleeing the scene in a pickup truck. The suspect was apprehended the next day following a massive manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies from around the Harris County and Houston area. A 30-year-old man named Shannon Miles, who held a minor criminal history prior to the shooting, was named as the prime suspect and charged with capital murder. The death of Deputy Goforth was met with unprecedented and overwhelming support from the citizenry of both Harris County, Texas as well as from across the United States. The tragic and senseless death of Deputy Goforth serves as a reminder to the community that the dedicated men and women of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office continue to serve in Deputy Goforth’s honor; shielding the innocent from harm and answering the perilous call to service and sacrifice.

Tributes

Title: Thinking of ya bro

I was sitting here in my living room playing with my daughter and it reminded me that night you were taken from us. That night I was actually off due to training at the academy and I was home playing with my new daughter. Just wanted to say I was thinking of you and actually think about your family quiet often.

Title: Cops on Top 2016

My husband and I did not personally know Deputy Goforth, but we will be hiking the tallest peak in Texas, Guadalupe Peak, on Saturday, June 25th, in honor and memory of Deputy Goforth and his family.
