Homeland Security Bureau

The Homeland Security Bureau oversees the agency’s SWAT operations and specialized task forces and units that respond to high-risk incidents beyond the scope of standard patrol deputies. The primary role of the Homeland Security Bureau is to support front-line deputies by resolving a range of crisis situations without incident, including warrant execution, barricaded suspects, hostage negotiation, and counterterrorism operations.

The bureau is made up of key tactical response personnel, including the Bomb Unit that inspects possible explosive devices and dangerous materials, the Marine Unit that patrols the Port of Houston, and the Air Support Unit that assists deputies in search of suspects or missing persons.
